Sound synthesis is a set of techniques for generating sounds. In the context of electronic music, it consists of producing and modulating sounds in the form of an electrical signal. Ikaro is an instrument that revisits this fundamental dimension by proposing a new form of sound synthesis and manipulation based entirely on the control of light: captured by modules composed of photovoltaic cells, light emissions, transformed into electrical variations, then become audible frequencies. In the manner of a modular synthesiser, the system is made up of autonomous and interchangeable elements that emit, filter and modulate light through LEDs, fans and lasers. This approach establishes a direct relationship between the visual and the sonic; light is not an arbitrary interpretation of sound, the two fields are physically associated in a synaesthetic relationship. Ikaro is an audiovisual instrument that invites you to watch as well as listen.
