Senta Simond presents a new project featuring a video diptych as its centerpiece.
Introducing music into her work for the first time, in Dissonance she proposes a visual and sonic dialogue between two young women who have never met: a Ukrainian dancer and an Irish harpist. Focusing on intimate close-ups and oblique angles, she creates an enigmatic, sensual, often hypnotic work that invites us to immerse ourselves in the scene.
Diving, gliding, spinning, Simond’s camera dances with its subjects, following their graceful movements in an improvised choreography. Exploring the question of authorship, she invited the two women to film themselves with their mobile phones while directing them, sometimes through text messages and e-mails. The artist then merged their images with her own to experiment with ideas of staging and performance, improvisation and chance, blurring the two points of view, making them almost indistinguishable, forging a new kind of collaboration.
The exhibition also includes a recent series of minimalist photographs that emphasise banal details and off-kilter views.
