Amalia Chraïti-Martin’s project is rooted in a family history marked by exile and the search for identity. In 2023, she travelled for the first time to Gafsa, Tunisia, her grandfather’s hometown, accompanied by her mother and sister, to reconnect with her roots and discover what remained of her family history. This return gave birth to the project La voix de ce qu’il reste (The Voice of What Remains). Through images and sounds, Amalia explores how a culture is passed down, reinvented and experienced across generations, despite geographical and linguistic ruptures. She questions the connections between a homeland and an ever-evolving identity, shaped by the encounter of two worlds. By revisiting her own past and that of her family, she probes the intimate bonds that unite generations and spaces while highlighting the fractures, silences and transmissions that arise from them.
