This immersive installation questions how we construct and perceive the living world. Inspired by cryptozoology, a pseudoscience that attempts to define the existence of legendary beings such as mermaids, it is aided by the research of B. Heuvelmans, a pioneer in the field. This project revisits the scientific codes by blurring the boundaries between norms and speculation.
It combines space and object design to create a contrast with the rigid presentations of scientific diagrams, which are often standardised and stripped of imperfections. This project was supported by the Cantonal Museum of Zoology in Lausanne and the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Science, where research on the history of scientific representations was conducted.

Through this universe, Adèle Guilbault offers a sensitive perspective on scientific history, traditionally dominated by male narratives. To her, science is a constantly evolving story, questioning the boundaries between humans and non-humans, highlighting their fundamental similarities.
