Contexte de création

Anima I & II (Research) were developed as PATHOS demonstrators between 2019 and 2022.
PATHOS is a robotic animation tool for non engineers. It is an ongoing project initiated by Pors & Rao since 2014, in collaboration with various Swiss universities and technical institutes.
The different parties involved were:
• Aparna Rao: as project director of PATHOS demonstrators • Pors & Rao Studio: for the development of the PATHOS mechanical modules and overall context of sentient beings • Wyss Zurich • RAUC, ETH (Robotics Aesthetics and Usability Center).
Important note: Anima I and Anima II will be presented during the exhibition with a temporary technology (Arduino and other mechanical components, that don’t belong to PATHOS).
Anima IV (Personal and Research): personal research project initiated with Workshop 4.0 and thanks to the support of ABB. The version exhibited is a collaboration with REHAssist research group from EPFL.

Anima: Poetics of Robotics

The Anima series explores robotics through a sensitive and poetic lens. Each project questions the place of robots in society by favouring an organic and unconventional approach to efficiency.

Inspired by the aesthetics and subtle behaviours of living beings, this series transforms robotic tools into interactive sculptures. Not only the shapes but also the movements and behaviours have been designed to instill an emotional dimension in their interactions with the public.

While the Anima projects are based on an artistic approach, they also enrich the reflections of our studio on object design, particularly with regard to the delicate relationship between humans and new technologies.

Anima I & II were originally developed as demonstrators for PATHOS, a robotic animation tool initiated by Pors & Rao Studio in 2014 in collaboration with Swiss universities.
Anima IV is a project developed using Workshop 4.0 with support from ABB.
