Infrastructure of a Migratory Bird is a map of the anthropogenic ecosystem assembled for the Northern bald ibis. This a migratory bird with a historic habitat in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa and a rich cultural history dating back to ancient Egypt. 

In 2013, almost 400 years after its local extinction in Europe, a team of biologists began to rewild the Northern bald ibis here. Since then, the number of birds in the wild has risen from zero to almost 200. Most of the birds have been equipped with GPS trackers and are monitored in real time, for care and support by scientists and the public. 

According to current models, at least 357 birds are necessary for the population to be self-sustaining. This number is projected to be reached by 2028, at which point the more-than-human infrastructure mapped here is expected to be transformed significantly. The map traces the emergence of a new notion of a wild animal, under the conditions of the Anthropocene.
