Headscarves, life jackets and a parachute:
The fabrics that the cool wind scattered over the rocky shores of Lesbos tell a story, the story of the flight to Europe. There is a feeling made up of equal parts fear, hope and hopelessness. The designer sensed it in Zurich, in conversations with refugees who had already left their journey behind. This feeling then followed him all the way to Greece, where it overtook him during the nights when he was lying on a mattress on the floor of a packed refugee apartment, trying to find sleep. He processed this feeling back in Zurich, when he recombined the fabrics from Greece into a completely new design, interwoven with the emotions of displacement.
The resulting textile sculpture has become the foundation of Vanishing Point a multimedia installation that includes analogue images from Greece and digital fashion images from shoots in Switzerland, creating a gateway into the parallel reality of forced migration that is once again on the rise globally.
