Inspired by cultural admiration and environmental concerns, this project seeks to foster dialogue on waste management with a soft, poetic approach.
Led during a residency at Rong Design Library in late 2024 and supported by Pro Helvetia Shanghai, it highlights the responsibility of leading nations in setting an example for sustainable practices. In China, a nation with rich heritage of craft traditions and rapid industrial growth, the waste issue is especially urgent.
Scrap glass, deemed unusable due to imperfections during bead production, became the focus of Laure Gremion’s experimentation. Despite initial scepticism from local artisans, fusing and blowing these discarded fragments revealed unique, fluid patterns.
This research challenges our perceptions of waste in Switzerland and beyond, showing that even production byproducts hold innovation potential.
