Electa is a typeface inspired by the slab serif style of Olivetti’s iconic Studio 42 typewriter (1935) and the Olivetti logo designed by Xanti Schawinsky (1934). Slab serifs, known for their readability and low contrast, became popular in the 19th century for their clarity in early printing and typewriting. Electa reinterprets this tradition with a contemporary approach: the Roman version preserves the original character, while the Italic blends diverse stylistic influences for a refined contrast. Designed to elevate the aesthetics of typewriter fonts, Electa removes imperfections like ink smudges, resulting in a clean, modern design. It bridges past and present, offering a neutral yet distinctive typeface suited for both historical and digital applications. More than a stylistic choice, Electa reflects on the evolution of correspondence, contrasting the deliberate craftsmanship of typewriters with the immediacy of digital text, emphasising the enduring value of thoughtful composition.
