Kunstverein was founded in 2009 and has produced various projects, flyers, newsletters, signage, interventions and publications over the last 15 years. The initially defined language is characterised by a radical reduction: a handwritten letterhead, the use of Arial as typeface and a primarily black-and-white colour scheme, which can be reproduced on a laser printer easily on a just-in-time basis. These limited but practical elements have been consistently applied – though for each output it was always possible to improvise above this baseline.

The collaboration with Kunstverein’s small team was on the one hand fast-paced, with events occurring spontaneously, which can be seen in the newsletters and tailor-made graphics. On the other hand, an ongoing dialogue has been consistently maintained, and longer-term projects have been realised, especially books. Importantly, the participatory approach of the collaboration should be mentioned, which has continually enriched the work. The relevance and necessity of each piece of printed material or artifact has been questioned again and again. In some cases, publication was deliberately avoided, or an alternative form of conveying the content was sought.
