Waxy Bar was a live music venue situated above Club Zukunft in Zurich, designed as a space for immersive music experiences and cultural exchange.
Its visual identity challenges conventional event promotion with band photography and genre classification in favour of a radical, text-driven aesthetic. Influenced by the visual language of 70s/80s billboards, generic packaging and Ed Ruscha’s typographic practice, Waxy Bar’s design framework centred on bold typography and enigmatic headlines. Event announcements adopted the form of ironic, product-style advertisements, reframing concerts as objects of desire through a lens of playful storytelling.
This reductive approach extended beyond printed matter to encompass the venue’s physical space, video commercials, merchandise and even a custom beer collaboration. Through deliberate restraint, Waxy Bar articulated a distinct visual and conceptual identity—one that privileged atmosphere, intrigue and a renewed engagement with event communication.
