Aujourd’hui is an installation previously presented at Librairy 7L.
The work, which incorporated reconstructed images and a printing device, examines the relationship between contemporary news and certain players of the French media-political theatre. The installation presents 20 images, resulting from digital assemblages made from photographs taken at the National Assembly and Palais de Justice in Paris. Facing these images is a device that prints live headlines from various conventional news sources broadcast on the social media platform BlueSky.
The brouhaha caused by both the flow of printed tickets and the number of microphones and cameras in the images depicts information as a mass consumer product that is staged, transformed and assimilated. Truth alone is no longer important; it is now the clay of a machine that imposes on us a construction of our contemporary history, by and for particular interests. A specific narrative thus unfolds, and the perception of our shared contemporary history is shaped.
