Behind Curtains stems from a reflection on virility, its glorification, fetishization, and performativity. I chose male striptease as a starting point: a practice that subverts conventional gender dynamics by placing the male body in the role of object of desire. However, it perpetuates and amplifies stereotypical visions of masculinity.
The collection draws inspiration from archetypes of virility commonly found in striptease acts, and classic menswear pieces rooted in military attire, sportswear, and outdoor gear—domains traditionally associated with male identity. To disrupt these rigid codes, I introduce visual and material influences from female striptease and burlesque. Transparency, floral shapes, tiny bows, and wind-blown skirts soften the harshness of masculine tropes and bring a sense of vulnerability and sensuality to the garments.
Through this tension, Behind Curtains questions the boundaries between power and exposure, seduction and control. It shows the artificiality of virility, whether it is performed on stage or embodied in everyday life. It inverts the male gaze by presenting the male body in an unfamiliar way—more sensual, more vulnerable.
